How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

A solid jadeite saddle ring is carved from one stone and cannot be resized, so the right size matters. Here are two simple ways to find yours, plus a US-to-mm chart.

Why Sizing Matters

A solid jadeite saddle ring is carved from a single stone. Like a bangle, it cannot be opened, clasped, or resized. If it is too small it will not pass the knuckle; if it is too large it will spin and can slip off and shatter on a hard floor.

Rings where jadeite is set into a silver band can sometimes be adjusted a little - but the safest path is always to know your size before you order. The right fit slides over the knuckle with gentle resistance, then sits comfortably at the base of the finger.

How to Measure Your
Ring Size at Home

1

Wrap the finger.

Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string snugly around the base of the finger you want to fit. Do not pull it tight - just snug, with no gaps.

2

Mark and measure.

Mark where the paper or string overlaps, lay it flat, and measure the length in millimetres. This is your finger circumference.

3

Find your size.

Divide by π (3.14) to get your inner diameter in mm, then match it to the chart below. Already have a ring that fits? Measure straight across the inside of its band instead.

Two Ways to Measure

Wrap method. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string snugly around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimetres. Divide by π (3.14) for your inner diameter, then match the chart.

Existing-ring method. Take a ring that already fits the right finger, and measure the distance straight across the inside of the band, edge to edge, in millimetres. That is your inner diameter - match it directly to the chart.

Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • Measure at the end of the day - fingers are smallest in the morning and swell slightly as the day goes on.
  • Check the knuckle, not just the base of the finger. The ring has to slide over the widest point, so size for the knuckle if it is much larger.
  • Cold hands run smaller. Measure when your hands are warm, at a normal room temperature.
  • A wide band feels tighter than a thin one. If a jadeite ring has a broad band, or you are between sizes, size up.
  • Measure the exact finger you plan to wear it on - your dominant hand usually runs about half a size larger.

Still Unsure?

Send us a photo of your paper or string measurement, or the inner-diameter reading from a ring you already own, and we will recommend a size. We are happy to help - jadeite is precious, and a good fit means you will wear it every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my ring size at home?
Wrap a strip of paper or string snugly around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimetres - that is your finger circumference. Divide by 3.14 for your inner diameter, then match it to a ring size chart. Or measure the inner diameter of a ring you already wear.
What is my ring size in mm?
Ring size is set by the inner diameter of the band. As a guide, US 6 is about 16.5 mm, US 7 is about 17.3 mm, and US 8 is about 18.2 mm inner diameter. See the full US-to-mm chart in this guide.
Can a jadeite ring be resized?
A solid jadeite saddle ring is carved from a single stone and cannot be resized. Rings where jadeite is set into a silver band can sometimes be adjusted a little - check the listing or ask us before ordering.
Should I size up or down for a jadeite ring?
Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest, and account for the knuckle - the ring must slide over it. If you are between sizes or the piece has a wide band, size up.
