How to Measure Your Jadeite Bangle Size at Homeguides

How to Measure Your Jadeite Bangle Size at Home

Unlike metal bracelets, jadeite bangles cannot be resized. Getting the right fit is essential. Here is the simple string method to find your perfect size.

Why Sizing Matters

A jadeite bangle is a single, continuous ring of stone. Unlike a gold or silver bracelet, it cannot be opened, clasped, or resized. If it is too small, it will not pass over your hand. If it is too large, it will slide off and risk shattering on the floor.

The right fit should require a little effort to slide on - snug over the knuckles, then sitting comfortably on the wrist with room to move but not slip.

How to Measure Your Hand
for the Perfect Bangle

1

Tuck your thumb.

Bring your thumb across your palm to touch the base of your little finger, making your hand as narrow as it will go - this is the widest point the bangle must pass over.

2

Wrap a string.

Wrap a piece of string (or soft tape measure) snugly around the widest part of your hand in this position. Do not pull it tight - just snug, with no gaps.

3

Mark and measure.

Mark where the string overlaps, lay it flat, and measure the length in centimetres. This is your hand circumference.

Find your size.

Divide by π (3.14) to get your minimum inner diameter. For comfort, add 1-2 mm. Match this to the size chart below.

Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • Measure in the afternoon - hands swell slightly throughout the day.
  • If you are between sizes, size up. A slightly loose bangle is safer than one that is too tight.
  • Round bangles sit differently from flat bangles. Round bangles need about 1-2 mm more clearance.
  • Apply a small amount of hand soap or lotion to help slide the bangle over your knuckles.
  • New to jadeite bangles? A comfortable fit means the bangle can rotate freely on your wrist but cannot slip over your hand without effort.

Still Unsure?

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my jadeite bangle size at home?
Tuck your thumb to touch the base of your little finger, wrap a string around the widest part of your hand, mark where it meets, measure the length in millimetres, then divide by 3.14 to get your inner diameter. Match it to a size chart.
What bangle size do I need?
Bangle size is the inner diameter of the opening, in millimetres. Our chart runs from 50 mm (Extra Small, hand up to about 15.7 cm around) to 68 mm (4X Large, hand about 20.7-21.4 cm), measuring the widest part of your hand with the thumb tucked in - not your wrist. The most popular sizes are 54-60 mm, which suit a hand of roughly 16-19 cm. If you are between sizes, size up.
Can a jadeite bangle be resized?
No. Jadeite is a natural stone carved into a single continuous ring. It cannot be opened, clasped, or resized like a metal bracelet. Getting the correct size before purchase is essential.
What is the difference between a round bangle and a flat bangle?
A round bangle has a circular cross-section and sits higher on the wrist. A flat bangle has a D-shaped cross-section and lies flatter. Round bangles typically need 1-2 mm more clearance than flat bangles.
