White Jadeite

White jadeite, bai di (白底), runs from a soft, milky opaque white to a clear, glassy stone, and because it carries no colour at all, its value rests on texture and translucency alone. A fine white piece has a smooth, even body with light moving through it; a simpler one is opaque and quiet, and often among the most affordable ways to own genuine Grade A. Many white stones carry a drift of floating colour, a thread of green or lavender through the white, which collectors seek out. Natural white jadeite also shows cotton and fine stone lines more readily than coloured stone, and we disclose both on every listing.

A white or icy body with wisps of green drifting through it, called floating colour (piao hua). It is a natural, prized effect, and the pattern is different in every piece.
