Buddha Jadeite

The laughing Buddha (佛) is the content, open-hearted figure carved into more jade pendants than any other. By old custom the Buddha is worn by women, nü dai Fo (女戴佛), its broad, easy heart thought to ease worries, while Guan Yin is worn by men; today it is simply a matter of which figure speaks to you. The Buddha is associated with contentment and tolerance, and we share that as cultural tradition, not as a promise about the stone. A good carving keeps the face warm and the belly full and round, and lets the stone's colour and translucency carry the figure. Every Buddha here is natural, untreated Grade A jadeite.
